A BRIGHTLY-coloured hummingbird flashed before my eyes, so close that I could hear its wings fluttering – no mean feat when the air is alive with the squawks of parrots, mockingbirds and, my favourite species, the spectacular scarlet ibis, the national bird of Tobago.
