V&A Golden age of ocean liners: Transatlantic travel in its glorious heyday
THE great ocean liners deserve a place among the wonders of the world. Not since the construction of the great cathedrals of Europe centuries ago had there been such a coming-together of engineering and artistic endeavour, of craftsmanship, imagination and sheer sweat. Forget Leonardo DiCaprio. Had Leonardo da Vinci - himself an aspiring designer of boats - seen what Mr Cunard put to sea, he might have smiled.
