You can see Joyce's Dublin, or Hugo's Paris, or Dickens' London. There are some fine tours, and thoughtful plaques, and any number of small shocks of recognition as you see the pub where Leopold Bloom got his Gorgonzola sandwich or the church where Cosette and Marius (spoiler alert) got married.
